Skin Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a regenerating needle treatment that penetrates into the underlying layers of the skin promoting repair and rejuvenation. The treatment is essentially based on the body’s natural healing ability. It is a controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism. The needles create micro-wounds triggering the production of new collagen in the area or “collagen induction”. The procedure is a proven treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks, often performed on the face but can be performed on other parts of the body.
The treatment involves using single or multiple needles at various depths depending on the treatment required. The procedure is very controlled and accurate for the area being treated and depth of penetration and is normally completed within 30 minutes.
The skin will appear red and flushed similar to the appearance of sunburn. Unlike the majority of our laser treatments where no downtime is required, makeup should not be applied for 24 hours. You will experience skin tightness and it will be mildly sensitive to the touch.
The length of downtime and recovery period depends on the needle size and depth used. Redness can be present from 12-72 hours. You will be informed about your predicted healing time during the consultation. Healing light therapy following treatment is highly recommended.
