Sun Damage, Pigmentation and Age Spots

There is great news for all skins types with our Discovery Pico and Q-switched laser. Previously only skin types 1-3 could access pigmentation removal technology without concerns of Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation. Our new generation laser makes it possible to achieve this successfully.

The 532nm laser is a laser that works exceptionally well on epidermal skin pigmentation for skin types 1-3. The 694nm laser is ideal for darker skin types. The laser deadens the abnormal brown pigment skin cells that have formed on the surface. The treated area has noticeable changes after 2 weeks revealing healthy skin with a normal skin tone. Most clients only require one to three treatments unlike Intense Pulse Light( IPL) treatments which can range from 4-6 treatments. Treatments should be spaced four weeks apart if further treatments are required. The 532 laser is the gold standard treatment for these pigmentations in 1-4 skin type. The 694nm laser is the gold standard for skin types 4-6.

Sun avoidance or full sun screen use is required before and after treatment. A vitamin rich ointment is recommended at night with the targeted areas to remain dry and protected during the day.

Anti-ageing treatments

Over the years, changes occur deep within our tissues that accelerate the appearance of premature ageing. There is a reduction in the amount of collagen, fragmentation of collagen fibres and dysregulation at the epidermis, the surface layer of the skin, causing fine lines, wrinkles and our face to generally migrate south.

Lifestyle and health factors can contribute to premature ageing. Signs of premature ageing can be dry, dull skin, fine line, loss of elasticity of the skin, crow’s feet, frown lines, and uneven blotchy complexions. Excessive sun exposure, smoking (which decreases oxygenation and damages collagen), high sugar diets, lack of sleep, high alcohol consumption, a poor diet lacking in nutrients and lack of exercise can all contribute to premature ageing.

By targeting these areas with the correct light therapy and natural botanicals, the skin can be assisted to renew, creating a firmer, even and more taught tone. Several modalities have been developed in order to reverse the dermal and epidermal signs of ageing.

Our methods of skin rejuvenation require less downtime, with the new generation micro-ablative resurfacing treatments compared to the ever common full ablative methods that can lead to complications such as pain, infection, burning, scarring and pigmentation changes.

Pico Toning- Rejuvenation

Our Discovery Pico Plus laser from Italy is ideal for the treatment of fine lines, pigmentation and wrinkles. The Photo-acoustic effect generated with this laser treatment, stimulates collagen production within the dermis. The six step laser treatment time takes approximately 20 minutes followed by light therapy. For 2 days downtime, we can provide less energy to still achieve great results or for a more intense treatment, downtime would be 4 days to 1 week with redness slowly diminishing. Numbing cream is usually recommended for most people.

Fine line reduction, generalised pigmentation removal and tightening of the skin is often noticeable within two weeks. Treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart and we recommend 3 treatments depending on your skin condition.

As with all laser treatment, a physical barrier sunscreen or avoidance of sun is recommended. Any retinol or peptide products should not be used three days prior to and post care.

Low Level Laser Therapy

We find light therapy extremely beneficial following laser treatment. Even though our laser facial treatments are all gentle, we do find that LLLT can reduce swelling and redness to a greater degree. LLLT is also an alternative form of facial rejuvenation, proven effective for wrinkles and skin elasticity. Increase of microcirculation, vascular perfusion of skin and inhibition of elasticity loss are all results of low level light therapy. It is now known that LLLT can improve collagen ptoduction.

A study of 600 patients were tested with photo-rejuvenation and reported a 90% improvement in at least one Fitzpatrick photo-ageing category and 65% of patients demonstrating global improvement in facial texture, fine lines, background erythema (redness), and pigmentation. They quoted a reduction in roughness and fine lines and a softening of skin texture.

LLLT has been shown to induce wound healing more rapidly than normal for those who do undergo the heated laser treatments. It has been used extensively in hospitals for successfully treating diabetic ulcers and bed sores. Click here for an informative article on the many benefits of LLLT in skin healing

532 Laser and 694 Laser

Anti-Ageing Skin Care

Recommendations for anti-ageing skin care are:

  • Papaya Masks for refreshing the skin of dead skin cells- BHA
  • Native Hibiscus and Willow Bark Enzyme Exfoliant Mask for removing dead skin cells and reduce pigmentation- AHA
  • Camellia Oil an essential fatty acid high in squalene, a natural emollient preventing skin drying and premature ageing. Olive Squalene and Rice Bran Oil are other important fatty acid suppliers for moisture retention.
  • Hyaluronic Acid has the remarkable ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water, inflating the skin.
  • Moringa Oil and Jojoba oil are great skin hydrators and antioxidants.
  • Rosehip oil is an excellent source of Vitamin A without the potential risks that retinoic acid might cause.
  • Babassu Oil acts as a protective barrier cream against the elements. Full of vitamins and minerals, it absorbs beautifully into the skin.
  • Frangipani Oil contains glycosides that helps get vital nutrients into the skin. It is also a hydrator binding water molecules. It promotes collagen production and provides antioxidant activity.
  • Gotu Kola accelerates skin cell regeneration
  • Kakadu Plum contains the highest levels of naturally occurring Vitamin C in the world. Vitamin C is essential for collagen production.
  • Vitamin B3 improves skin moisture and boosts the production of collagen as well as stimulation microcirculation.
  • Rose oil is a beautiful oil for broken capillaries, it also moisturisers and repairs skin, an ideal treatment for the mature dry skin.
  • Tamanu Oil can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, having a regenerative effect on the epidermis of the skin.

We rarely recommend copper peptides as many people do have a burden of copper in their bodies. Excessive copper tends to disrupt many enzyme reactions in the body, including hormone production. Blood tests can analyse this copper load. Other peptides are readily available and are very effective. We stock a plant based peptide that acts like a powerful natural injectable.
